Astro’s Playroom Gets Surprise Update Ahead Of Astro Bot’s Release

admin January 4, 2026

The robots can also be displayed on the television instead of the controller screen by swiping up on the touch pad. When the robots are on the television, it is possible to physically interact with the robots using the PlayStation camera’s depth capabilities. Astro’s Playroom was a launch title for the PlayStation 5 that comes pre-installed on the console. The game is a fantastic tech demo for the DualSense controller while also being an enjoyable platformer in its own right. Astro’s Playroom has been described as a love letter to PlayStation, as the game is full of references to past and present Sony franchises. Sony boldly chose Astro Bot to lead the PlayStation 5 with the tech demo Astro’s Playroom.

Some of the levels have power-ups that are creative in form and function. For example, you’ll get a frog suit controlled through motion controls and the R2 adaptive trigger. The four main areas consist of four smaller subsections that alternate between standard the more standard Astro platforming and a specific suit for each area with special mechanics. Cooling Springs, for example, sees Astro get into a springy frog suit, using the adaptive triggers to compress the spring and moving the controller to aim where it will leap to. Astro’s world–the literal playroom–is a cartoon fantasy-style interpretation of the PlayStation 5. Each one is densely packed with fun little scenes and interactive set-dressing.

On the first level, you’re going along a beach and can feel the steps you make in the sand. Each bit of grain is felt through your hand, which makes it intense in the best way. Then, 88vv happening when these features are combined. Take when you’re exiting the beach and you’re walking against the fans that are blowing sand across you.

They can be found in every level in the game, except for the Network Speed Run levels. Some children might feel frustrated with different game levels or obstacles. Talk to them about recognising when it’s time to take a break and turn their attention somewhere else. Often, when they come back relaxed, they’re more likely to find success. Those who hop into Astro’s Playroom today will be met with a message that a “mysterious portal” has opened up in the center of the game’s collectible hub, the PS LABO.

First, activate the first two rope bridges by pulling the wires out of the ground. Now, return to the starting area, and to the side, you’ll find another set of wires, which gives you a projectile with a net inside. If done successfully, the Gran Turismo Special Bot and the “Grand Tourist” trophy will unlock. Before you do that, stand on the edge just to the left of where you need to pull the chest from the ground.

The microphone makes the wind more intense while the vibrations of the sand are felt as the controller feels like a sandstorm. But it’s not all suits and colorful levels to enjoy, there’s also a mountain of collectibles to find that tug on the nostalgic heartstrings of any PlayStation fan. The game’s 16 levels feature nasty little bots to defeat, and little secrets and character cameos to find, such as the Buster Sword from Final Fantasy 7 or Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. Levels have Astro jumping on fluffy clouds in Memory Meadows, skating along the ice in Cooling Springs, or blowing up asteroids in a later level in SSD Speedway.

The Frog Suit Has Great Mid-air Mobility

Jump across and pull the three small wires, followed by the revealed large middle wire to get this artifact. Puzzle Piece 1/4 – From the start of the area, go to the left and go through or around the igloo to find this puzzle piece. There is a built-in progress tracker on PS5 trophies so you can easily keep track how many you found already. The Astro Playroom Trophy List includes 31 bronze‚ 14 silver‚ 5 gold‚ and 1 platinum trophy‚ totaling 51 achievements. Categories range from story completion to collectibles and challenges‚ with some being secret trophies. There are five challenging Gold Trophies in Astro Playroom‚ focusing on speedruns and special challenges.

The door is a reference to show the game hid loading times, by showing a shot of a door opening to disguise the load between rooms. When entering the first wide open area, jump to the island on the left with a circle of Bots on it, one of which is wearing a purple beanie. The purple beanie refers to character Ashley Brown, while the one next to it with classes is Christopher Hartley. Further along the beach from the God of War easter egg is a giant Bot head. This is a reference to 2006’s LocoRoco for PSP, developed by SIE Japan Studio. Punching it will cause it to split into many tiny heads that then merge together, referencing the signature ability of the LocoRoco.

Astro’s Playroom may not be the deepest or most ambitious game on PS5, but its humor and playfulness are just delightful. Even though Astro’s Playroom is relatively simple, it kept me entertained for about five hours with its array of challenges and entertaining Easter eggs. During Astro’s jaunt through the guts of the PS5, you run across all sorts of PlayStation references and memorabilia.

Astro’s Playroom isn’t just a tech demo but a fun little platformer. It’s great that Sony is investing more in the Astro Bot franchise because this could be their answer to the Super Mario series. The level design is more like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World, and that’s a huge compliment. While linear, the space feels open enough to have a ton of details throughout. The basics are you’re traversing the area, trying to find items and coins as you reach the next level.

Earning them provides a sense of accomplishment as you progress through the game’s charming and nostalgic levels. But the joy of Astro’s Playroom, while largely focused on its use of the new controller, is also thanks to Team Asobi’s dedication to turning this pack-in into a mini-museum of PlayStation history. All of them are put on display to be looked at or hit to produce sound effects, pop open disc trays, and more. Although the game is comparatively short, it bags a thrilling time and displays the potential of the PS5 and DualSense within this new technology of gaming. Gameplay revolves around platforming and usage involving the DualSense’s features, including the controller’s touch pad, haptic feedback and adaptable triggers.
